DESCRIPTION:Tim will be talking about the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and his involvement helping the young people cope by learning the skills of sailing and working together. \nThe Trust is for 8-17 and 18-24 year-olds\, and is free to anyone who has been treated for cancer. Their free four-day sailing adventures can be transformational. But whether you get afloat on the Isle of Wight or in Scotland\, sailing is only the start. \nInspiring brighter futures goes beyond a one-off experience. The Trust’s free Return Trips for under 18s and 18+ years provide the continued support many young people need living through and beyond cancer\, and there’s a chance for siblings of young people who are being or have been treated for cancer to enjoy an adventure of their own. \nAll proceeds from this talk will be donated to Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust \nDon’t forget the Restaurant is open so there will be time for a meal before the talk. DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED Due to lack of bookings\n  \nWe are setting up a joint Skittles Evening with the Classic Boat Section at the Hamworthy Club on the Magna Road between Bear Cross and Merley. This is a great event\, and looked forward to by members. We have a buffet meal organised for the evening\, and at just £19.00 per person for buffet and room hire. This is a great venue with ample parking and considering the surroundings and quality of food\, good value too. \nNew Date due to cancelation of the 19th February. \n24th March at 6 pm\, the buffet will be served during the evening \nHamworthy Club Ltd.\, Magna Road\, Canford Magna\, Wimborne\, Dorset\, BH21 3AL \nWhere there’s plenty of parking\, and good food. \n \nNumbers are being kept at 30/32 spaces allowing everyone to get a fair game or two\, so book early to avoid disappointment. \nTo book your space and buffet at £19 per head\, \nPLEASE NOTE: We are now putting a Bookings Cut-Off point of the 10thMarch 2026 to help with notifying the venue about numbers two weeks in advance.

DESCRIPTION:The Work of Poole Harbour Commissioners\n\n  \nPHC’s work towards ensuring safe\, efficient\, enjoyable and environmentally friendly navigation\, and how yacht club members can play their part. \nHarry first discovered a love for the sea aged six when\, on holiday in Cornwall with his family\, he took part in a dinghy sailing taster session. \n“It felt like it was in the middle of a storm\, but in hindsight it was probably quite benign\,” he said. \n“A lot of my family got into sailing as a result of that\, and I gradually progressed from dinghies to yachts then\, eventually to ships.” \nAlong with his parents moving there when he was in his teens\, Harry\, who spent time working in project management for the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence\, did much of his training in Poole. \n“I’ve always been attracted to Poole\, and I always hoped to come back here one day.” \nHarry’s new role will see him ensuring the harbour’s Marine Services team and pilots are all operating effectively. \n“In the first instance my aim is to fill Brian’s enormous shoes\, then I’ll work out what might need to be done after that. \n“If I can continue to do what we’re doing at the moment\, while making some small improvements and responding to whatever challenges will inevitably come around the corner next week\, then that’s great.” \nOutside of work Harry spends much of his time with his young family\, but when he gets the chance he has a number of nautical hobbies to keep him busy. \nTo conclude\, Harry said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be here. \n“I’ve had a real connection to Poole for many years and I look forward to meeting the several thousand harbour users that we’ve got and working out whether what we’re doing is up to scratch\, and how we can make the harbour the best it can be!” \nDon’t forget the Restaurant is open so there will be time for a meal before the talk. DESCRIPTION:The RYA Radar course is suitable for leisure boaters and those working on the water. \nFor those looking to take Yachtmaster exams or who have a radar on board this is essential training. If you have radar on board then it is a requirement under the IRPCS (International Regulation for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea) that you know how to use it. \nIts a one day course and you will look at how radar sets work\, how to use the different adjustments and the implications\, radar reflectors\, plotting and how to use the radar for navigation and collision avoidance. DESCRIPTION:A Facinating Talk by a True Sailor of the World’s Oceans\nStokey Woodall is a humorous speaker offering a range of interesting and informative talks all liberally laced with anecdotes and humour and presented in his own inimitable style. Stunning visual presentations add an extra dimension. \nThe first part of the talk is called ‘Who the Hell is Stokey Woodall’\nThe first part of this talk will be about the life and times of Stokey\, a working class Black Country man. This is a light hearted and humorous look back at his early sailing experiences and seafaring adventures That took him across the world’s oceans amassing over 300\,000 nautical miles. In 1982 scribbled down on a beer mat in the Peg Legs Bar\, Tortola\, British Virgin Islands he came up with a plan for an ocean sailing school. Talking over a beer about the idea with his friend Tony Sparks\, a celebrated artist in Southampton\, they came up with a logo andname for the Company – International Ocean Services (IOS). Tony believed that Stokey was very similar to the Arctic Tern; a bird that flies in excess of 32\,000 kilometres a year and was a renowned master of navigation. \n  \nThe second part is called ‘Satellites to Frying Pans’\nDuring these times of uncertainty and troubles it is good to be positive. \nThe talk “Satellites To Frying Pans” by round the world sailor Stokey Woodall is a thought provoking one about things that can or do go wrong with your navigation systems and to have a plan B in place for it \nThe Scenario\, GPS goes down\, you don’t have a chart\, compass\, log or timepiece\, the stars cannot be seen because its foggy. \nDon’t worry! DESCRIPTION:Our Cruising section walk on Sunday 18th January is 10.15 for a 10.30 start\, and will start and finish from the car park behind the Bridge House Hotel at Longham BH22 9AN. \nRoy and Wendy (The Roshanaks) are leading a 4 mile walk – River/Wood/Lakes. \nLunch is booked at the Bridge House at 12.30 – they do an excellent lunchtime carvery. We do need numbers by Wednesday 11th as they get very busy. The walk is all footpaths and only 100yards on a pavement. DESCRIPTION:Pam & Iain Dickie will be leading a circular walk to Old Harry Rocks from Studland  \nMeet in the National Trust’s South Beach Car Park (BH19 3AU) next to Bankes Arms\, Studland at 10.15 for a 10.30 start. \nWe will make the iconic walk from the car park to Old Harry Rocks and then walk back\, past the Bankes Arms and on to St. Nicholas Church at Studland where Iain will give us a little history talk and you will be able to see some of the intriguing sculptures on the exterior of the church. \n \nBack to the Bankes Arms around 12.30\, 1.p.m. \nPlease book  in advance so we can advise pub re numbers! \nWe will need numbers for the Banks Arms by Monday 14th December \nPlease Book this walk\, and others\, HERE \nOnce your Walk Booking form has been sent you will immediately receive an email  confirming that we have received your booking\, and number of people attending the lunch. \nNOTE: If you don’t receive this confirmation email within 5 minutes\, from sending your booking form\, then please look in your Spam or Junk folders as some email browsers see automated replies from websites as Spam or Junk mail.

DESCRIPTION:The Marine Surveyor’s Notebook Talk by Ben Sutcliffe\nWith over 35+ years’ experience in the marine industry\, including Boat Building in timber\, GRP\, Steel and aluminium\, he has written many articles for publications and brings an unrivalled breadth of reliable knowledge to Yacht\, Motor Yacht\, Narrow boat or any small craft surveys. Ben is an Accredited Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). He is on the international register of qualified Marine surveyors and is also a Full member of the British Marine Federation and Canal Boat builders Association. \nBen’s written for many Publication \nBen’s passion and depth of knowledge in wood\, Steel\, alloy and GRP as a boat  builder Ben worked at Whistocks and worked on a wide variety of craft from Traditional Wood Carvel Clinker to Double diagonal of the RNLI fleet that the yard had the maintenance contracts to. He was also involved in GRP repair work at the yard for customers with in the Marina along with lofting and laminating work using West Epoxy for the Varships ( kits ) that Whistocks developed. \nExpertise in Yachts\, Powerboats\, Canal Boats\, and Commercial Shipping \nBen also worked at Felixstowe College as the RYA Sailing Instructor and was able to carry out repairs and instruct students on maintenance to a fleet of 18 craft. When the College Closed Ben set up the Anglia Yacht Brokerage in East Anglia\, and by the mid 90’s Opened a second yard for Traditional Boats and specialised in Drascombe and the Cornish Crabber Range\, within a few years he was recognised as the leading broker/specialist for these craft. This added experience as a Yacht Broker has given him great advantages when surveying the large variety of craft he has during his career. Ben is an also an Accredited Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). \nBen is a good mate of Tom Cunnliffe and has worked with Tom when Tom thought of taking on a project boat to work on. SUMMARY:Hengistbury Head Walk & Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Dave Butler (Jessica) is leading the walk from Hengistbury Head on Sunday\, 23rd November 2025 \nMeet up at the Hengistbury Head car park\, BH6 4EL\, by the Hungry Hiker Cafe at 10.30am to start our walk. We will be stopping for a drink at the Mudeford Beach cafe \, halfway point. \n This walk encompasses a surprising range of landscapes and environments. It is approximately 3 miles and takes about 1.5 – 2 hours\, on well- maintained paths\, and beach to Christchurch Harbour entrance. \nIt’s a lovely\, circular walk which takes you up and over the the headland and down to the white sand beach of Mudeford Sandbank\, where you can have a coffee on the spit before looping back across the saltmarshes that skirt Christchurch Harbour. \nHengistbury Head is a towering headland of golden sandstone\, enclosing the natural harbour where the estuaries of the Stour and Avon rivers converge. \nBeaches\, heathland\, marshes\, reedbeds\, and woodlands can all be found on this circular walk. Not to mention some stunning clifftop views\, with an incredible 360-degree panorama from the highest point of the Headland. \nFor eating we will move to the Spyglass & Kettle (BH6 3PW) at Southborne nearby for a  2pm roast dinner in the company of our follow walkers. SUMMARY:Jo Macgregor - Summer Cruise 25 in Primrose
DESCRIPTION:Jo Macgregor\, sailed Primrose (a 21ft yacht) single handed across the English Channel to the Channel Islands\, then on to the Brittany Coast of France\, and ended up sailing up the River Rance to Dinan before making the long trek back to Poole. \nA feat daunting enough in a 30 foot cruiser with crew\, but in a 21ft boat single handed……..that would be truely daunting for many others.  \nIt turned out to be a voyage of discovery starting with a successful\, and bold crossing of the English Channel\, followed by anchorage/marina hopping all the way to Dinan in Brittany\, France. \nCome and hear the story\, with a photo slide & video show to accompany the talk\, showing yachting from Jo’s point of view on a single handed boat adventure.  \nThis will prove to be a facinating talk full of adventure and discovery\, and definately a talk to put in your diary. \nGet there early to enjoy a meal in the restaurant before hand and make it a full evening of enjoyable food and entertainment. \nOur talk is in the Skylight Lounge\nTo Book this talk please click HERE \nOr pay cash on the door

The cafe also opens at 10.00 for breakfast etc. \nThe Walk is being led by Tony and Debbie Raven. \nSet in 25 acres of woodland between Wareham and Corfe Castle\, the Blue Pool derives its name from the striking turquoise colour the water this disused clay pit can appear. Suitable for leisure boaters and those working on the water. \nThe course will cover:\nThe four stroke cycle\, fuel\, cooling and air systems\, engine electrical systems\, spares and tool requirements\, winterisation and servicing. \nThis course is being hosted by Dorset Marine Training\, and shall be run at the Yacht Club. \n\n\nInstructions\n\nThis is a full day’s course and shall be run from a classroom.
