SUMMARY:Bob Hazell's Overlord Talk 2026
DESCRIPTION:I was introduced to the Offshore Cruising Club in 1984\, and my first trip on Overlord was a passage from Brittany to Southampton Water.  I had never had an experience like this before and joined the club.  After a number of other passages I obtained my Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate and was passed out as Skipper.  Elaine joined the club in 1995\, having previously sailed on a sister yacht called Sea Scamp. \nSailing Overlord is a very different experience from a normal modern yacht.  She is 58 ft long with tiller steering and an offset propellor\, because when she was built in Germany in 1936 as part of a fleet\, they did not have engines.  The hull is teak on Swedish iron frames and has been well looked after.  She has 10 berths but a maximum crew of 9 to provide more space.  She has sailed all over Europe\, and one of the biggest advantages is taking a flight to wherever she is\, currently Southern Ireland\, sail to wherever the next crew change has been arranged\, and fly home.  It is therefore a great way to experience harbours and countries that you may never have visited. \nIf you are interested\, it could be a great opportunity to go for a weekend sail\, then decide whether you would like to sail on her again and get involved in the club. \nFood will be available on the night\, so arrive early if you wish to eat beforehand\nand make an evening of it.\nTo book a place on this fascinating talk please click the button below \n \nOnce your Booking Form has been sent you will immediately receive a confirmation/payment email from our booking system with the PYCCS bank account details into which you should pay your fees for this talk. PLEASE NOTE: If you don’t receive this email within 5 minutes\, from sending your booking form\, then please look in your Spam or Junk folders as some email browsers see automated replies from websites as Spam or Junk mail. \n

SUMMARY:Robert Heaton's Talk on Poole Maritime History 2026
DESCRIPTION:Robert Heaton will be giving us another very interesting talk on the Maritime and Archaeological History of Poole Harbour\, the coastline area of Dorset and the wider area surrounding us. \nRobert from Poole Maritime Trust and East Dorset Antiquarian Society is a local Surveyor heavily involved in research projects on land and sea across Dorset. New technology is bringing opportunity and discoveries\, where we can build on our understanding of Poole’s extraordinary rich and fascinating past. Remotely operated vehicles\, sub-surface sonar mapping and drones bring footage and help provide a new perspective for you to enjoy. \nThere is a strong connection between members of our club and former projects that have paved the way for some new exciting discoveries and undoubtedly more to come in the years ahead. \nArchaeological work on sites in Dorset add so much to this story across many thousands of years. There is much to learn and enjoy in this journey through our beautiful county. \nThis will be a fascinating and absorbing talk with much to learn for us all.
