DESCRIPTION: TalkTom Cunliffe is a Top International Yachtsman\, Author and Wonderful Speaker and Raconteur\nTom is the consummate nautical story teller whose experience and knowledge he delights in relaying to boaters and others. \nHe is the author of many books including: The Complete Yachtmaster; 200 Skipper’s Tips; The Shell Channel Pilot; and many others. \n \nTom’s talk this year ‘Living through the Gale’. \nHeavy weather is a lurking threat that most of us hope and plan to avoid\, but not even internet forecasting can make it go away. Anyone intent on going on passages or crossing oceans must be ready to deal with it if it comes. Even well-informed inshore and continental-shelf sailors will inevitably be caught out sooner or later. DESCRIPTION:Studland Bay Anchorage and Conservation\n \nHoward Davidson and Sarah Parker\, two leisure boating reps on the The Studland Bay Marine Partnership (SBMP) will be here to give us updates on progress\, and will talk about their win for marine wildlife and boaters alike at Studland Bay\, by installing additional eco-moorings. This talk will explain all about the new Eco moorings and the plans for the future of Studland Bay for leisure boaters usage. \nTalk will be in the Skylight Lounge \nFood will be available on the night from the Bar and Catering \nThis is a walk-in\, no charge talk for all members\, just turn up and learn all about the latest news on the eco-buoy mooring system and conservation project in Studland Bay. \nRepresenting a wide range of organisations\, the Studland Bay Marine Partnership was formed to work towards protecting Studland’s seagrass beds and its resident\, and protected\, long-snouted seahorse population and other marine wildlife. \nHundreds of waterborne visitors to Studland Bay already take a proactive approach to conservation by using eco-moorings. DESCRIPTION:Robert Heaton will be giving us a very interesting talk on the Maritime and Archaeological History of Poole Harbour\, the coastline area of Dorset and the wider area surrounding us. \nRobert from Poole Maritime Trust and East Dorset Antiquarian Society is a local Surveyor heavily involved in research projects on land and sea across Dorset. New technology is bringing opportunity and discoveries\, where we can build on our understanding of Poole’s extraordinary rich and fascinating past. Remotely operated vehicles and drones bring footage and help provide a new perspective for you to enjoy. \nThere is a strong connection between members of our club and former projects that have paved the way for some new exciting discoveries and undoubtedly more to come in the years ahead. \nArchaeological work on sites in Dorset add so much to this story across many thousands of years.
